"We would like to try out the oscillating cutting function, which has a good reputation as a solution to long chips problems.
However, when used on a twin-spindle machine, we wonder how much of an effect does it have on the cutting quality of another side spindle?”
・The customer would like to use the oscillating cutting function to solve problems such as wrapping of long chips and scratching damages.
・However, they were concerned that the vibrations generated during oscillating cutting would make bad effects to the another side spindle.
The customer, a long-time user of Muratec machines, contacted us to ask if they could effectively use the oscillating cutting function.
We replied this customer that there would be no problem because we’ve had lots experiences and records, but the customer was still concerned about the effect of vibration as this was their first time using it on the Twin Spindle Turning Machine.
To resolve their concerns, we explained the unique bed structure and made test-cutting on the actual machine in Muratec showroom.
We first showed the customer an actual structural model and explained Muratec's unique design.
Our Twin-Spindle Turning Machine “MW Series” uses a unique bed separation structure to prevent vibrations from another side spindle.
*There are some models having optional specifications.
Furthermore, we keep this bed separation in mind from the manufacturing stage, and manufacture each spindle as a single unit.
The MW series combines these two independent units into one, making it possible to suppress the effects of vibration even when the spindles are closely located.
After we explained the customer about the theory of the structure, we conducted test-cutting with the actual machine as the next step.
The customer provided us with the actual workpieces and the planned cutting program, and we showed them the actual finish on the machine.
There was no sign of any vibration effects from another spindle, which had been their concern, and a good effect of the bed separation structure was clearly proven.
We also showed the customer a test-cutting with the case of interrupted cutting, which was an additional proposal from Muratec.
The demonstration was done with using a sample workpiece which shape is even more susceptible to vibration than the customer’s workpiece.
As the same to previous test, the result also showed no vibration effects and the workpiece surface with the opposite spindles remained clean.
Highly satisfied with the results, the customer told us their expectations that they would be able to upgrade their machining conditions.
The unique bed separation structure incorporated in the Muratec MW series has achieved the following results
The machine introduced in this case-study is the Twin Spindle CNC Chucker 'MW100Ⅱ'.
