“After the customer’s cost-saving task through the material integration, some of their workpieces have had to be cut-off into two.
For that purpose, they were using another sawing machine and relying on manpower, but they wanted to improve this process with automation.”
To make a solution for this customer’s challenge, our loader design team and machining technology team worked together to share ideas and find a way.In this case, since the production volume of the target workpiece was not high, Muratec proposed a method that allows both supporting cut-off process and transport processes to be carried out by gantry loader simultaneously.
First, the blank material is loaded to the main chuck, and after the first workpiece is machined, it is cut off with support by loader chuck and unloaded. Then, the second workpiece is processed in the same way.
By using the loader in this way, it becomes possible for one machine to produce two pieces from one piece of material.
By using the loader in this way, it is possible for a single unit of machine to produce two pieces of workpieces from one piece of material.
In this customer’s case, the back side of workpiece also needs to be machined, so our twin-spindle turning machine is used to process both the front and back sides of two workpieces from one material.
By using above idea, their individual sawing machine is no longer required, resulting in not only space saving for the entire process, but also reduction of work-in-progress inventory. Moreover, only one Muratec twin spindle machine made possible for the customer to complete all processing of the front and back sides of the workpieces.
