Akashi Gohdoh Inc. (Hakusan City, Ishikawa Prefecture) manufactures copper alloy castings and bimetal products, supplying high‑precision components to a wide range of fields, including construction machinery, hydraulic equipment, and various types of pumps.
Through their unique bonding technology, they have developed bimetal products that combine iron and copper alloys, and these products are widely used around the world, particularly in cylinder blocks for hydraulic pumps in construction machinery.
By leveraging the advanced technical expertise cultivated since their founding, they continue to support social infrastructure across many industrial sectors.
Muratec has been working with Akashi Gohdoh for more than 15 years, during which they have introduced multiple machines in the 8‑ to 12‑inch class, centered on our front-facing twin spindle CNC turning machine, the MW200.
We interviewed this customer when they came to our Inuyama factory for a machine pre-acceptance test.

Please tell us what you like about our products.
I like the machine's high rigidity.
Because our company often performs heavy metal cutting with large stock removal, we place particular emphasis on machine rigidity.
Muratec's machine is designed with the spindles' and turrets' centers of gravity set low, allowing accurate cutting even during heavy cutting.
Initially, we planned to use the Muratec machine only for rough cutting, but because accuracy was stable, we were able to automate the finishing process.

Thank you for your evaluation.
Information on a highly rigid machine structure is introduced below.
I was told that many heavy workpieces are manufactured; what changes occurred after introducing automation?
I feel that one of the biggest changes has been the removal of safety concerns.
Since our operations involve handling workpieces weighing approximately 40 kilograms, we have been considering automation to eliminate the risks associated with manual handling.
However, due to the heavy weight of the parts, selecting a suitable machine had been a challenge.
At that time, Muratec proposed a solution using a loader capable of handling heavy workpieces, which enabled us to move forward with automation.
By reducing heavy manual tasks, we have not only improved safety but also reduced the physical burden on our operators.

You have been working with us for many years; could you tell us your impression of our company?
We feel reassured knowing that any points for improvement are carefully reflected in the specifications of the next machine.
As a result, we have the impression that defects and issues occur far less frequently, allowing for stable operation.
In addition, even if a problem does occur, the quick response we receive has been extremely helpful.

Please tell us finally what you expect from Muratec going forward.
We plan to further automate small-lot products going forward.
Currently, Muratec’s machines are focused on lot production, so we expect product development that leads to further Changeover-less and non-Changeover operations.
