Bending operations with a press brake largely depend on the operator’s skill level, leading to variations in working time and quality.
In addition, because safety measures are mandatory, installing safety devices is essential. However, some customers may be concerned that these measures can reduce work efficiency.
Specifically, we often hear the following challenges:

・To achieve the target angle, trial bending is repeated multiple times, resulting in longer processing time and, with each repetition, an increased risk of rework and product defects.
・With light curtain safety devices, the machine frequently stops during bending operations, leading to poor productivity.
・On older press brakes, interference with installed light curtain safety devices can occur, making it difficult or impossible to bend certain shapes.

☆Angle Measurement System: IRIS PLUS
IRIS PLUS is a device designed to enhance the functionality of press brakes by combining a laser-based safety system with an image-processing angle measurement system.
It consists of a laser transmitter and receiver, enabling image capture and processing during the bending operation.
With its ability to approach the material surface at high speed, up to 2 mm above it, it ensures both safety and productivity without compromising machine takt time.
Compared to conventional light curtain systems, IRIS PLUS provides improved safety while significantly reducing the interference area with the operator.

•If the laser beam is unintentionally interrupted during operation, the machine can be restarted simply by pressing the foot pedal.
•After restarting, the ram descends at a safe speed of 10 mm/s, allowing bending operations to resume safely while minimizing downtime.
•The angle measurement function helps achieve the target bend angle in a single operation, reducing rework and lowering the risk of defects.
